The Alpha Kappa chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated was chartered on October 7, 1922. Our charter members are the late Raymond Pace Alexander, H.A. Brown, J.A. Burr, W.T. Dixon, M.S. Duncan, D.E. Finley, S.L. Hasbrouck, W.H. Mitchell, R.H. O’Blenis and C.S. Stone. Alpha Kappa was chartered in Springfield, Massachusetts and encompasses the western Massachusetts area; the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Western New England State College, American International College, Amherst College and Springfield College. The brothers of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, have been in the Western Massachusetts area since it’s chartering in October of 1922 making it the oldest historically Black Greek Lettered Organization at any College/University in the surrounding communities. It is the 32nd house of Alpha.
