Alpha Phi Alpha

Alpha Gamma Chapter was chartered on Thursday, February 2, 1921 in Providence, RI and ever since has been serving the community through community service as well as social events while keeping with the fraternity's mission. The chapter supports numerous cultural, educational and civic programs each year throughout the Greater Providence area. These events include but are not limited to: “Project Alpha;” which provides a forum for young minority boys to learn about life choices and sexual responsibility; the “Martin Luther King, Jr. Oratorical Contest;” the “Alpha Phi Alpha Leadership Institute;” which aims to develop leaders at a young age; and the “Alpha Phi Alpha Education Foundation;” which awards college scholarships annually to those that are in need.

Local brothers have founded such organizations as the JWU chapter of the NAACP, as well as the JWU Multicultural Center. The Alpha Gamma Chapter includes brothers from Brown University, Johnson & Wales University, Rhode Island School of Design, Rhode Island College, University of Rhode Island, Providence College, and Bryant College.
